Did you know you can change the sensitivity of your Volt Stick detector simply by adjusting the position or angle of the stick in relation to the tested device or location? Volt Stick's Brent Hill demonstrates how using your Volt Stick 'side on' to the device will give greater sensitivity than 'end on'.
Did you know that you can change the sensitivity of a Volt Stick simply by adjusting the position/angle of your Volt Stick in relation to the device/location being tested?
In a Volt Stick there is a long antenna at the top which detects the electric field. So if you position the Volt Stick to the object you're testing 'end on', there's actually less of the antenna in the electric field than if you position it 'sideways'.
When the Volt Stick is angled sideways there is more of the Volt Stick going into that oncoming electric field so it becomes more sensitive. Therefore, a Volt Stick side-on is more sensitive and will detect from further away than if you use the volt stick end on.
The above tip provides a simple suggestion to increase or decrease the testing sensitivity of your Volt Stick simply by adjusting the angle of the stick in relation to the device or area being tested.
But did you know that Volt Stick also provides a range of alternative sensitivity voltage detectors to meet the needs of specific industries and applications?
Whereas as our ‘standard’ Volt Stick models are calibrated for testing at the UK 230 volts, we also provide greater sensitivity models - for example down to 100v, 50v and even 12v.
In addition, some of our models – for example the Volt Stick BRIGHT- have a dual switchable sensitivity setting (standard 230v range and high sensitivity 20v range).
